The Foundation aims to partner with organizations and initiatives led by strong leaders, driven by clear objectives, and known for consistently achieving meaningful results. <a href=\"https:\/\/rmff.org\/grants\/\">Read more<\/a> about why we view grantmaking as a strategic priority.<\/p><p class=\"p1\">Below you will find a step-by-step guide to our grantmaking process \u2013 from inquiry to award \u2013 so you know what to expect at each stage. We have also listed information about our funding focus areas, eligibility guidelines, and timeline. To assess alignment, please review our <a href=\"https:\/\/rmff.org\/funding\/education\/\">Education goals and strategies,<\/a> as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/rmff.org\/grants\/all-grants-awarded\/\">past grants<\/a>.<\/p><p>At this time we are not accepting inquiries in the <a href=\"https:\/\/rmff.org\/funding\/health\/\">S\u1ee9c kh\u1ecfe<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/rmff.org\/funding\/vitality-of-indianapolis\/\">S\u1ef1 s\u00f4i \u0111\u1ed9ng c\u1ee7a Indianapolis<\/a> focus areas. We expect to begin accepting Health inquiries in late 2026.<\/p><h3>Organization Type<\/h3><p>The Fairbanks Foundation funds eligible tax-exempt organizations serving greater Indianapolis, including:<\/p><ul><li>501(c)(3) public charities under sections 509(a)(1), (2), or (3)<\/li><li>Public entities designated under section 170(c)<\/li><\/ul><p>We do not support certain Type III 509(a)(3) supporting organizations, as prohibited by the Internal Revenue Service. We also do not award grants to individuals.<\/p><h3>Types of Grants<\/h3><p>All potential grants must demonstrate a clear impact on Greater Indianapolis and align with the Foundation\u2019s current <a href=\"https:\/\/rmff.org\/funding\/education\/\">Education strategies<\/a>. We prioritize efforts that address unmet needs, demonstrate strong outcomes, and create transformative change.<\/p><p>The Foundation has historically awarded multiple types of grants, including:<\/p><ul><li>H\u1ed7 tr\u1ee3 ho\u1ea1t \u0111\u1ed9ng chung<\/li><li>Capital projects and endowments<\/li><li>Capacity building<\/li><li>Start-up or seed funding<\/li><li>Matching or challenge funds<\/li><li>One-year and multi-year grants<\/li><\/ul><h3>What We Do Not Support<\/h3><p>The Foundation does not award grants for:<\/p><ul><li>Initiatives that do not impact Indianapolis<\/li><li>Grants, loans, or scholarships for individuals<\/li><li>Most for-profit organizations<\/li><li>Supporting organizations controlled by disqualified persons to the Fairbanks Foundation, or non-functionally integrated Type III supporting organizations (as defined by the IRS). If so, we invite you to submit an inquiry at any time during the year. Inquiries are reviewed on a continuous basis. Your submission should be no more than two to three pages and include the following:<\/p><ul><li>The issues you seek to address and how your organization is involved<\/li><li>Brief description of your organization<\/li><li>Brief summary of the activities the grant would fund, including the objectives and anticipated outcomes<\/li><li>Total amount of funding needed and other sources of confirmed and\/or prospective support<\/li><li>Total cost of program\/project<\/li><li>Contact information, including your name, email, telephone number, and the organization\u2019s address<\/li><\/ul><p>We often prefer to wait until after receiving an inquiry to determine whether a meeting would be useful for both you and our team. Please limit proposal narratives to the page length specified by Foundation staff. As a general rule, larger program or project proposals should be limited to 10 pages of narrative, and smaller proposals should be limited to five pages. Proposals are reviewed at quarterly board meetings, and we will likely notify you of a final funding decision within one business day of the meeting.
