Fairbanks School of Public Health at IUPUI Bolsters Indiana\u2019s Public Health System"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"11333\" class=\"elementor elementor-11333\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4d64de9d e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"4d64de9d\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4707822a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4707822a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>Good health is a necessary condition for success in life and is linked to the ability of children and adults to thrive in school and in the workplace.\u00a0Unfortunately, Indiana\u00a0consistently ranks\u00a0at or near the bottom of almost every measure of public health and healthy living, with\u00a0higher-than-average rates of preventable mortality, substance\u00a0misuse,\u00a0and tobacco and\u00a0use.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>To\u00a0address\u00a0Indiana\u2019s\u00a0health challenges,\u00a0expand public health research\u00a0and data collection,\u00a0and\u00a0solve\u00a0the shortage of trained public health personnel in the state,\u00a0the\u00a0Indiana Department of Health, several local health departments, and faculty at Indiana University\u00a0and IUPUI\u00a0developed the idea for\u00a0Indiana&#8217;s first school of public health.\u00a0With funding from the Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fsph.iupui.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IU Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health at IUPUI<\/a>\u00a0was\u00a0officially established in 2012.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>Today,\u00a0the\u00a0Fairbanks\u00a0School\u00a0of Public Health\u00a0strives to prepare leaders in public health and healthcare through innovative, interdisciplinary,\u00a0and\u00a0community-engaged education, research and service.\u00a0Students participate in health-focused\u00a0academic programs,\u00a0equipping them with the knowledge necessary to work in Indiana\u2019s\u00a0local health departments and hospitals.\u00a0The\u00a0School\u00a0also produces funded research on\u00a0Indiana\u2019s\u00a0public health,\u00a0helping to\u00a0inform\u00a0the state\u2019s\u00a0public health decision-making.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>The Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation provided $20 million \u2013 the largest grant in the Foundation\u2019s history \u2013 to help establish and maintain the\u00a0IU Richard M.
