Fairbanks Foundation launched\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rmff.org\/preventionmatters\"><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">La prevenzione \u00e8 importante<\/span><\/i><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0in 2018 to help Marion County schools\u00a0identify, implement,\u00a0and sustain proven substance use prevention programs. Programs used as part of the initiative were chosen for their demonstrated ability to equip students with skills that not only help them avoid drugs and alcohol, but also help improve their academic achievement, attendance, classroom behavior,\u00a0and social and emotional well-being. Further, these programs have been shown to reduce bullying and violence.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">After the initiative ended,\u00a0the Foundation\u00a0\u2013\u00a0in collaboration with the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.in.gov\/doe\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Indiana Department of Education<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.in.gov\/fssa\/dmha\/home\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addiction<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hflaporte.org\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Health Foundation of La Porte<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, and\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nchsi.com\/nchs\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">North Central Health Services<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0\u2013\u00a0created a document outlining guidance for funders interested in awarding grants to schools\u00a0seeking\u00a0to implement substance use prevention and mental health programs.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The document\u00a0identifies\u00a0nine key lessons about\u00a0planning for, supporting,\u00a0and evaluating\u00a0substance use prevention and mental health\u00a0programs so other funders can support schools and communities effectively:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>Determine\u00a0the needs of students in your community and\u00a0identify\u00a0the gaps in programming or services to address those needs.\u00a0<\/p><ol><li>Support strong evidence-based programs that meet students\u2019 specific needs, fit into the school\u2019s schedule and culture, and can be sustained over time.\u00a0Determine\u00a0the needs of students in your community and\u00a0identify\u00a0the gaps in programming or
