{"id":8638,"date":"2021-04-28T17:32:20","date_gmt":"2021-04-28T17:32:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rmff.org\/?p=8638"},"modified":"2025-12-05T18:42:39","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T18:42:39","slug":"adequately-training-providers-is-key-to-improving-indianas-healthcare-capacity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rmff.org\/pt\/2021\/04\/adequately-training-providers-is-key-to-improving-indianas-healthcare-capacity\/","title":{"rendered":"Adequately Training Providers is Key to Improving Indiana\u2019s Healthcare Capacity"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"8638\" class=\"elementor elementor-8638\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-42acaa91 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"42acaa91\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2865de59 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2865de59\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecommunity.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Community Health Network<\/a>\u00a0(CHN), one of Indiana\u2019s largest healthcare systems,\u00a0is the largest provider of behavioral health in Central Indiana.\u00a0High\u00a0demand\u00a0for\u00a0opioid use\u00a0dependency\u00a0treatment in Indiana\u00a0\u2013 particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic \u2013 and\u00a0an\u00a0insufficient supply of\u00a0healthcare workers trained in addiction \u2013\u00a0has\u00a0revealed a\u00a0critical gap\u00a0in Indiana\u2019s\u00a0ability to care for those with co-occurring behavioral health and substance use disorders (SUDs).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>That realization led to a partnership between\u00a0CHN,\u00a0Ascend Indiana, Indiana University and the University of Indianapolis.\u00a0With the help of\u00a0$376,000 in funding\u00a0from the Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation, they\u00a0worked to create\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecommunity.com\/careers\/behavioral-health\/behavioral-health-academy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Behavioral Health Academy\u2122<\/a>, a talent pipeline that provides students with the necessary\u00a0training\u00a0to enter a career\u00a0in which they are equipped to\u00a0treat\u00a0both\u00a0behavioral health\u00a0concerns\u00a0and substance use disorder.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve already seen\u00a0that the interns going through our Academy and who have graduated feel far more confident working with individuals when they come in with co-occurring disorders,\u201d\u00a0said George Hurd,\u00a0Vice President of Behavioral Health Services at CHN.\u00a0\u201cThey\u00a0don\u2019t question their skills or their ability.\u00a0We feel very confident in our Behavioral Health Academy\u2122\u00a0students that when they graduate, they will be workforce ready to deal with the most complex cases we have.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-21a03b7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-rmff-video\" data-id=\"21a03b7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"rmff-video.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t        <div class=\"rmff-video-widget\" data-widget-id=\"21a03b7\">\n            \n            <!-- Headline -->\n            \n            <!-- Video Container -->\n            <div class=\"rmff-video-container\">\n                                    <div class=\"rmff-video-wrapper\">\n                        <div class=\"rmff-video-embed\">\n                                                            <iframe \n                                    src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/EVcz8nKgLzI?enablejsapi=1&#038;rel=0\" \n                                    frameborder=\"0\" \n                                    allow=\"autoplay;
